when you bandy boards y'all will observe that windows probably volition non boot. you volition take to re install it, and if yous practice not have a product central as you upgraded from say windows 7 to x, and then you lot have to call microsoft. and then before the swap be sure to back up your data. and make sure you lot take an installer disc.

Windows ten surprisingly agrees to boot on dissimilar system without any training (yay, they did it after 25 years).

I know windows 7 did and never let me down, but I observe 10 often flat out will non.

If y'all Create a Microsoft Account for your PC and and so make the motherboard swap, so you lot should non need to purchase a new Windows 10 license. As long as y'all log in with your Microsoft business relationship, you should non need to activate.

Just remember, your organization needs to be tied to your MS business relationship BEFORE you install a new motherboard.

Nothing on that link says Win 10 is transferable using your MS account, let lonely an OEM copy.

Reactivating Windows ten after a hardware change
"In Windows x (Version 1607 or after), you can link your Microsoft account to the Windows x digital license on your device. This can help yous reactivate Windows using the Activation troubleshooter if you make a significant hardware change later, such every bit replacing the motherboard."

In my case when i switched out my mobo I didn't accept to do anything Os wise. When i plugged everything back in and turned it on windows booted fine. I have a retail copy of windows 10 on my ssd and I didn't need to get a new copy or even enter the fundamental from when i upgraded. Obviously this may non be the same in your instance.
